Therapeutic Process

 Referral Process

A medical referral is not necessary to attend Skerrett Speech Pathology. We accept initial referrals from parents, as well as GPs, paediatricians, teachers or external agencies when the family has been informed.

Initial assessments May take place in the home, school or clinic, depending on your child’s age and needs. Not all children will receive a formal assessment. Formal assessments for older children will be clinic based.

Reports – Within 3 weeks of your assessment. You will be sent a report detailing the outcomes of the assessment with recommendations for home and school.

Follow up – Appointments are organized following the report to ascertain a treatment or management plan for your child.

Recommended intervention will generally take the form of:

  • 1:1 intervention sessions by therapists
  • In-home/school support by a Speech Pathologist
  • Consultation with teachers or other stakeholders
  • Additional intervention with the use of students who are monitored by therapists

The range of interventions offered in Skerrett Speech Pathology are outlined in the Therapy Services Tab.
